On May 25, 2022, the Islamic State – Khorasan Province carried out three simultaneous IED attacks targeting three minivans transporting Shia Hazaras in Mazar-i Sharif. Two of the attacks occurred within a few minutes of each other in PD-10, while the third occurred shortly afterward in PD-5. Coming just one month after two minivans were targeted the same way in the same city, these incidents reflect a progression in this ISKP attack TTP in Afghanistan. In addition, they constitute a serious threat for Taliban security forces, who have been challenged by ISKP’s activities even prior to taking over the country in summer 2021.
