On June 24, 2023, a truck carrying weapons concealed in a cargo of sand was intercepted in Morelia, in Caquetá Department, in southern Colombia. The recovered items included a mortar, mortar bombs, and additional ammunition. While all of the weapons were improvised, they had an industrial level finish. Both the ELN and FARC dissident groups produce their own ammunition, in particular mortar bombs and rifle grenades, of a very high standard, using industrial machinery, which increases the quality of the ammunition produced by the militant groups in Colombia. One of the items documented in this incident hints at the interest of the Colombian groups in modified standard ammunition for armed UAVs, which to date, has not been documented in this arena.
