Since the inception of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, there have been increased reports of assassinations and attempted assassinations of Russian political and military officials. These operations remain mostly unclaimed and are a part of the covert war and clandestine operations between Russia and Ukraine. Evidence from these incidents indicates the use of explosives and IEDs. The tactics employed included the use of RCIEDs, mostly as part of an ambush, as well as the use of sticky IEDs intended to be attached to the targets’ vehicles.
