During February 2025, two IEDs were detected in separate locations within Balochistan Province.
On February 6, 2025, security forces recovered an IED concealed in a cement block in Pishin, along with a mobile phone-based initiation system. Notably, the use of such camouflage for IEDs is uncommon in Pakistan.
A week later, on February 13, 2025, IED components were seized in Nasirabad. These included vehicle air horn-based pressure switches systems used to trigger VOIEDs.
The characteristics of these IEDs have been observed in Pakistan on multiple occasions in the past, particularly in Balochistan, with a notable presence between 2015 and 2017. However, following a period of dormancy, these tactics resurfaced in 2023-2024, culminating in the incidents documented in this report.
