Between February 11 and March 14, 2026, soldiers of the Joint Task Force South East of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation UDO KA, conducted a phased offensive into the “Mother Valley” – a forested enclave spanning Orsu and Ihiala local government areas in Imo and Anambra states, respectively, in southern Nigeria.
The operation progressed from reconnaissance and perimeter engagements in mid-February to a full-scale assault on the group’s “Supreme Headquarters” by early March, with the objective of dismantling the command infrastructure of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, which had established a presence in the area.
As a result, multiple improvised firing platforms – used as roadside IEDs and locally referred to as “Ogbunigwe” (single- and multi-barrel variants) – as well as underbelly IEDs were seized, and several IED workshops were identified.
