Mobius report 25/2026 – KGZ Improvised Mortar Round Production and Field Workshops, Myanmar

Throughout 2025 and into 2026, as well as in preceding years, extensive visual documentation emerged from an anti-junta militia known as Karenni Generation Z Army, showcasing their preparation of improvised mortar rounds in field workshops and their deployment in rural terrain.

Footage and still imagery from these sites show extensive use of commercial machinery and electrical equipment to mill, grind, weld, and cut metal and PVC components used in the fabrication of small-, medium-, and large-caliber mortar rounds. The documentation also demonstrates the extraction of explosive materials from standardized munitions and their reuse in improvised mortar round production.

These processes are presented as a display of the KGZ’s capabilities and often include instructive elements. At the same time, the content appears intended to showcase this technical know-how and engage a supportive Burmese diaspora, segments of which have been documented providing material support to resistance groups fighting the State Administration Council led by Min Aung Hlaing.
