On September 24, 2023, Iran’s state media channels reported a large 28-man Islamic State militant network had been recently arrested in a coordinated operation in Tehran, Alborz and West Azerbaijan provinces.
The majority of weapons seized during the raid were firearms, in addition to a PBIED and IED components.
In recent months, a number of weapons seizures have been presented in Iran, demonstrating once again the threats Iran faces domestically, whether from armed minority groups, or local and regional Sunni Islamist organizations, including the Islamic State.
