In late June 2024, Russian combat-related Telegram channels began circulating images of a new type of Ukrainian IED seized by Russian forces near roads and railroads in different locations. The IEDs were described as improvised shaped charges comprising cast explosives in an aluminum casing, an initiation system incorporating a PCB, and a detonator. These EFPs were reportedly planted using large UAVs. The emergence of EFPs delivered remotely via UAVs targeting vehicles indicates the evolving capabilities of the Ukrainian Army, reflecting their increasing capabilities and adaptation in response to operational challenges in tactical warfare.
