On July 24, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM, an IED disguised as an umbrella was discovered near Motijheel Metro Station in Dhaka, Bangladesh. EOD personnel conducted render-safe procedures on the device, during which a bystander was injured by fragmentation. The location and configuration of the concealed, timed IED suggest it may have been intended to target civilians in the busy Motijheel area; however, the intended target has not been established. The device’s unusual concealment and electronic delay initiation system illustrate the recent evolution and increasing sophistication of IED configurations observed in Bangladesh.
