TGA0899 – Ukrainian Maritime Tactics for Countering Russian Unmanned Systems in the Black Sea

Ukrainian maritime defense tactics now incorporate unmanned surface vessels configured as multi-layered defensive platforms against Russian air and naval threats. Since early December 2024, Ukrainian USVs equipped with specialized hatches and launch pods have deployed weaponized FPV drones against coastal and maritime targets. By March 2026, these tactics evolved into an air defense layer utilizing STING C-UAS interceptors integrated onto Magura USVs, notably featured on the new Magura V11 mothership capable of carrying up to 18 vertically launched STING interceptors to counter incoming Russian loitering munitions such as the Geran-series. The STING interceptor features a PCB initiation system controlled via RF signal. Additionally, Ukraine further demonstrated its defensive capabilities by using a Sargan 3000 USV to sink a Russian USV in one of the first recorded direct battles between uncrewed surface vessels in the Black Sea.
