Terrogence takes a carefully proactive approach to intelligence collection. Proactive is a nice buzzword, so it behooves us to explain exactly what we mean and contrast it to passive intelligence collection.
In a passive WEBINT setup, the internet is a pool of information. What you search for is what you get. That’s not to say that there isn’t a great deal of information to be gleaned in this way, but rather to say that in the social user-access-controlled web of today, that setup is perforce limited.
Let us be clear, even Virtual HUMINT™ operations can be run in a passive way. Simply accessing password-protected or user-access-controlled areas of the social web to “listen in” like a fly on the wall is, admittedly, a more aggressive approach to online intelligence, but it is not yet what we would call proactive WEBINT.
Terrogence is more of a human in the room than a fly on the wall. Not only do we listen in, but we take two steps beyond. The first step is to interact, to look and feel like an actual forum user. The next step is elicitation – and this is where our approach gets interesting. An example will be the best way of explaining how this proactive step works and what it takes to make it work.
Terrogence has a distinct advantage over other intelligence corporations in both its Virtual HUMINT™ expertise and in the number and quality of Virtual Entities that is has cultivated to date and can cultivate in the future. If we are after some information that is not to be found in a place where we think it should be, we might start a discussion and wait for a response. Nothing new here.
But if no response is forthcoming, we create the response using another Virtual Entity and manufacture an active discussion amongst our own Entities. Done right, this lends both credibility and interest to the thread, and serves to draw out actual activists to engage.
Note that we are very careful not to provide information of a usable kind under any circumstances online.
It is our mastery of this proactive approach to WEBINT that sets Terrogence Virtual HUMINT™ operations apart from other attempts at the same.
