TGA0756 Weaponized UAVs in the War in Sudan

From the early days of the fighting in April 2023, the armed conflict in Sudan has seen a growing use of UAVs on the battlefield. At first, the warring parties deployed armed UAVs that released bomblets over targets. Among the different documented explosive payloads, a Serbian model produced specifically for use with UAVs was notable. The weaponized UAV used with this ammunition, believed to be produced in the UAE, incorporates two dispensing tubes, and was previously documented in Ethiopia and Yemen. Another development in this arena is the introduction of racing drone-based improvised loitering munitions, mainly by the Sudanese Armed Forces at present, inspired by the war in Ukraine. Overall, the employment of different types of UAVs represents a significant escalation in the ongoing clashes in Sudan
