Since the start of the Iron Swords/Al-Aqsa Flood War on October 7, 2023, the use of sticky and other IEDs manually placed by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad has been documented. In the course of the war, and throughout the fighting in the Gaza Strip, we have observed the manual placement of IEDs on Israel Defense Forces tanks and armored fighting vehicles. The various models of IEDs produced by both Hamas and the PIJ are initiated by mechanical systems with a short pyrotechnic delay. This attack TTP is intended to overcome the active and passive defense systems (the Trophy APS) on IDF armored fighting vehicles designed to protect against ATGMs, rockets and anti-tank rifle grenades in urban combat arenas.
