On May 31, 2024, an attempt to launch mortars at a military base in a rural area of Villavicencio municipality, in Meta Department, Colombia, was foiled. A truck was found some 300 meters from the base in which an improvised mortar was installed with a unique system for the automatic loading and firing of six consecutive mortar bombs. According to the reporting, the initiation system of the loading mechanism was a delay system. This unique system represents a continuation of the development of weapons and attack TTPs using different mortars, including firing in an indirect formation, as well as in a direct formation at police and military targets in Colombia.
