In June 2024, a Ukrainian TikTok channel showcased an unusual release mechanism for armed UAVs that holds and releases explosive payloads using magnets. This method is an alternative to the common light sensor and servo motor method used with commercial drones, such as the DJI Mavic quadcopters, or for RC-initiated motors used with FPV racing drones. The experimentation with various release methods and bombing tactics in the Ukrainian arena indicates the continued progression of the weaponization of small rotary-wing UAVs.
