On June 23, 2024, a Russian instructional video explaining how to assemble an IED resembling a YaRM shallow water mine for deployment from an armed UAV was posted on a Ukrainian military-related Telegram channel.
The video reportedly features a Russian UAV battalion called the “Phoenix Battalion.” In May 2024, the Phoenix Battalion documented and posted on their Telegram channel their use of a similar IED deployed from an armed UAV.
The IED in the instructional video included a small quantity of fragmentation, flotation devices and an anchor. It was fitted with a slightly modified standard YaRM mine fuze. An MUV-4 pull fuze, serving as an anti-lift booby trap, was also fitted to the IED.
