A confrontation with Syrian security forces in northern Idlib Governorate on October 21-22, 2025, highlighted the presence of Firqat al-Ghuraba, a faction of French-speaking jihadists active in Syria since 2013. While many foreign jihadist organizations in Syria eventually integrated into the official armed forces under the Al-Sharaa-led Government, Firqat al-Ghuraba maintains a strained and complex relationship with the Syrian authorities and leadership. The group’s primary IMA channels were identified via the IRIS system and were found to feature content that endorses and glorifies figures and groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
