Since the beginning of 2025, several documented instances of the presence of M74 antipersonnel mines, originating from the US Area Denial Artillery Munition (ADAM) system, have surfaced in Ukraine. These compact mines deploy tripwires upon dispersion, which when triggered, activate an internal mechanism that propels a spherical main charge containing fragmentation into the air.
The M74 is considered a complementary munition to the M70 and M73 anti-tank mines, also of US origin and part of the Remote Anti-Armor Mine System (RAAMS). These mines have been observed in the Ukrainian theater since late 2022.
