October 14, 2025, at approximately 6:35 PM, a VBIED initiated in the parking area outside the 100 Business Plaza building, part of the Mall del Sol commercial complex on Joaquín Orrantia González Avenue in Guayaquil, Guayas Province, Ecuador. The explosion occurred during peak evening hours in one of the city’s busiest commercial zones, resulting in one fatality, more than 30 injured civilians, and extensive structural and vehicular damage. A second VBIED emplaced beside the first vehicle failed to function and was subsequently neutralized by bomb disposal technicians.
The attack has been attributed by the Interior Ministry to Los Lobos and Colombian FARC dissident elements, reportedly in retaliation for recent military operations targeting illegal gold-mining sites under their control in the Buenos Aires sector of Imbabura Province.
The attack reflects a deliberate tactical shift by Los Lobos–linked cells toward high-visibility mass-casualty operations, prioritizing symbolic impact over civilian safety and exhibiting complete disregard for collateral casualties.
