Terrogence Mobius report 94/2025 – Work Accidents During IED and VBIED Preparation and Use – Latin America

On December 6, 2025, at approximately 11:40 AM, an explosion occurred on Rayón Avenue in the center of Coahuayana de Hidalgo, in Coahuayana municipality, Michoacán State, western Mexico. Four community police officers were killed and more than a dozen others were injured. Initial investigation indicates the incident involved a VBIED; the two occupants of the vehicle were also killed in the blast. The vehicle, identified as a Dodge Dakota, initiated in the middle of the roadway adjacent to the community police station, the municipal government building, and a hospital, all located several dozen meters from the blast site.

Mexican authorities attributed the attack to the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), reportedly operating under the local leadership of Abraham Jesús Amador Cano, aka El Yogur, a figure linked to previous shootings, kidnappings, and disappearances in adjacent municipalities. Authorities assessed the vehicle was remotely detonated as part of a coordinated operation intended to target the community police.

On December 17, 2025, Michoacán State Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña stated that investigators had identified at least three CJNG-linked individuals associated with the attack. Authorities further confirmed that these individuals were part of the vehicle convoy accompanying the VBIED and they observed the attack from a distance.
