On December 14, 2021, two Colombian bomb technicians were killed while handling an IED at Camilo Daza International Airport in Cucuta,  in Norte de Santander department, Colombia. The IED, which was concealed in a suitcase, was discovered during a search of the airfield after an earlier explosion in which a person carrying another IED was killed.

On February 4, 2022, two bomb technicians and a police officer in southern Thailand were injured while combing the scene of an IED attack that occurred the day before on a railway track in Chana District, Songkhla Province, in which a fisherman was critically injured.

Planting IEDs specifically targeting forces responding to incidents, especially EOD forces, is a tactic employed by many different organizations in different arenas around the world.
