During the past month, two unusual VBIED incidents occurred in the West Bank, in Israel. One was a synchronized VBIED attack on August 30, 2024, targeting Gush Etzion and Carmei Tzur, whose full realization was prevented. The other was a foiled VBIED attack near Ateret, in Binyamin, on September 2, 2024.
These two incidents are part of an attempt by Palestinian terrorist organizations, guided and supported by Iran, to reignite the West Bank and regain its reputation as a base for launching deadly attacks inside Israel, and ultimately making the West Bank a central arena in the current war.
The numerous attempts to effect such VBIED attacks indicates an increase in motivation among Palestinian terrorist organizations in the West Bank to carry out such attacks in Israel. Thus, increased vigilance is necessary to continue to thwart these attempts, which, looking forward, are likely to increase.
