Mobius report 37/2026 – Airborne Deployment of C-UAS Interceptors, Ukraine

Weapons such as the P1-SUN, STING, and other variants have become a prominent layer within the Ukrainian military’s air-defense interceptor framework. They are deployed against Russian loitering munitions and reconnaissance UAVs during large-scale, long-range waves of Russian UAV and loitering munition operations.

Recent video footage has illustrated the airborne deployment of Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) loitering munitions, with operators managing the P1-SUN interceptor directly from inside the launch aircraft.

These interceptor designs utilize a standardized aerodynamic fuselage configuration and are equipped with small explosive warheads located in the nose or lower fuselage sections. The initiation systems identified in these designs correspond to multifunctional systems previously documented in FPV loitering munitions employed against ground targets. RC initiation appears to be present on most documented designs and is likely used for proximity detonation, while impact-initiation functions were also documented.
