On July 12, 2026, during ground operations conducted by the Israel Defense Forces in southern Lebanon, Iranian-manufactured anti-helicopter mines were recovered from an underground Hezbollah weapons cache in the Beaufort Castle area. The mines were seized alongside other weapons and military equipment, including IEDs, anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, and initiation systems. Anti-helicopter mines are an extremely rare category of munition, known to be held by only a limited number of countries worldwide.
This represents the first documented recovery of these Iranian anti-helicopter mines and their first documented appearance in Hezbollah’s arsenal in Lebanon. The mines constitute a highly unusual capability within the region, and no operational use of the system has been documented to date.
