During October 2025, two incidents involving a black rectangular-shaped IED were documented in the Punjab region of northern India.
On October 9, 2025, a Babbar Khalsa International terror cell was uncovered in Jalandhar, Punjab. Two operatives were arrested, and an IED weighing approximately 2.5 kg, equipped with a transmitter, was seized from their possession.
A few days later, on October 15, 2025, during a security operation ahead of the Diwali festival, Amritsar Police found three hand grenades, an RCIED, a transmitter, and additional explosive materials wrapped in a plastic bag in a field near Teri village, within the Ajnala Police Station jurisdiction in Amritsar, Punjab.
These incidents add to several others in recent months involving black, rectangular-shaped RCIEDs – a type known to be used by Pakistan-backed terrorist groups – indicating a renewed appearance of this TTP in the Punjab region.
