During December 2025, open-source imagery documented Geran-2 multi-role unmanned aerial system configured to carry R-60 air-to-air missiles. Multiple warhead variants, as well as added payloads for submunition dispersal, have previously been documented on the platform; however, this particular modification raised questions regarding its potential to intercept Ukrainian airborne vehicles. Given the technical challenges associated with integrating an air-to-air missile launch system on a Geran-2 UAS, this configuration is assessed as more likely serving a deterrent or decoy role. It likely reflects an effort to repurpose legacy Soviet munitions on newer platforms to discourage Ukrainian pilots from closing in on Russian UAVs for interception.
